OUR FOUNDER

A Vision Born in Mindanao

Atty. Senforiano B. Alterado Sr. was the visionary behind MATS College of Technology. As Chief of the Enforcement Office of the Civil Aeronautics Administration, he recognized the need for a premier aviation and maritime training institution in Mindanao. His determination and passion for education led him to Davao City in the early 1969s, where he established what would become one of the most respected technological colleges in the region.

His legacy lives on through the thousands of pilots, marine officers, engineers, and professionals who proudly bear the name of the institution he built from the ground up — a school that now shapes the futures of Filipino youth and sends them to rule the skies, dominate the seas, and lead in technological endeavors across the globe.

OUR STORY

Brief History

1969
The Founding

Atty. Senforiano B. Alterado Sr. came to Davao City to establish the first flying school in Mindanao. The Philippine Flying School (now Mindanao Aeronautical School) was founded, and on July 28, 1969, more than 10 of the first batch flying students started to attend classes in a rented bungalow.

1972
Expansion and First Graduates

The school moved to a new training center with four classrooms and expanded to include Aircraft Maintenance in Engineering. About sixty pioneering students enrolled. The first commencement exercises were held on March 20 at Davao Y Gym. Aviation Electronics Communication Technician Course (Avionics) was also added, and for the first time more than forty women enrolled.

1975
Move to R. Castillo Street Campus

On June 5, 1975, classes were transferred to the present main campus along R. Castillo St., Agdao, Davao City. A well painted semi-concrete building with twenty-four classrooms was completed. From a very small Philippine Flying School, the institution had a population that came close to a thousand.

1976
The Birth of MATS College of Technology

On the first civil-military parade on July 28, 1976, the first Maritime students together with Aviation students marched through downtown streets. The school applied for a new name — MATS College of Technology. Now the once small aviation school had already been counted among the most prestigious colleges in Davao City.

Today
A Legacy of Excellence

Seventeen courses allied to Aviation, Maritime and Electronics made MATS a real technological college in the City of Davao. A college that now rings the bell to those who are looking for a school they can proudly call their own — an Alma Mater for those who will one day rule the skies and dominate the seas or lead others in technological endeavors.
